The Red River Carts

This a traditional Red River Cart, used by the Métis for hauling freight and people. It is constructed completely of wood, with no metal parts. The wheels are wrapped with wet rawhide, which when dry held the wheels together.  Metal was scarce and wood was everywhere, so repairing the carts was possible anywhere.
